Program Director's Welcome
Our mission is to take great people and help them develop into excellent Emergency Physicians. We accomplish this through an intense and challenging clinical experience paired with sane scheduling and a goal of learning to balance work responsibilities with staying well during residency training. With high quality training and our dedicated faculty for mentorship, our graduates have been well prepared for the next stages of their medical careers.
Who's the real adam kellogg?
Hometown: South Hadley, MA
Baystate graduation year: 2007 - This is my 20th year at Baystate
Favorite western MA activity: Eclectic outdoor hangout spots, usually involving food and games. Like Fern Valley Farm, the Apple Place, and Silver Bell Farms, and our wonderful breweries with foodtrucks and entertainment (Treehouse, Drunken Rabbit, Iron Duke, etc. etc.).
Favorite food at the Baystate cafeteria: Salad bar (I save my fun eating for outside work)
What's one thing you're excited for this year at Baystate? Probably too serious an answer, but I am excited by all the change we have made to increase our ability to see patients earlier. I enjoy my work more when seeing people who have not been waiting many hours. They like it too.
Clinical highlights
The best way to learn emergency medicine is from Emergency Physicians, on-shift, in real time. Our second and third year residents spend 20 out of 24 months in the Emergency Department. We have the volume and acuity, the faculty expertise, and the diversity of acute trauma patients, acute medical illness, and pediatric cases to make this the ideal setting to become experts in emergency care. Our residents graduate feeling well-trained, well-prepared, and ready to take on the sickest of patients in community and academic settings.
